Joint Replacement and Reconstruction

Do you have or are you experiencing chronic pain, muscle weakening, or joint dysfunction? This may be the effect of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative joint disease, or the result of a long-term traumatic/acute injury. When conservative treatment such as physical therapy, cortisone injections, viscosupplementation, and/or medications are unsuccessful in providing pain relief and restoring function, joint reconstruction or replacement may be a beneficial option.

Reconstructive surgery preserves and repairs the damaged joint without using a prosthesis (artificial joint).

Replacement surgery involves replacing a total or part of the joint with a prosthesis. Prosthetic joints are highly developed components made with very durable metals and plastic materials. Each prosthetic is designed to specifically restore a certain joints function and is sized to match as closely as possible the patients normal anatomy prior to degeneration or injury. Advancements in the technology, instrumentation, and surgical techniques, make it possible to relieve the unbearable joint pain and get you back into an active lifestyle once again. Joint replacement/reconstruction surgeries offered at Orthopedic Specialists include but are not limited to:

  • Minimally invasive total hip and knee joint replacement
  • Shoulder, spine, hip, knee, ankle, hand, wrist, finger, and elbow replacements and advanced reconstruction
  • Reverse and total shoulder arthroplasty
  • Hip Joint Resurfacing
