Dr. Scott Brotherton Scott Brotherton, MD

Dr. Scott Brotherton is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and a Florida native who grew up in the state's panhandle. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and then returned to Florida and earned his medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine. After completing a surgical internship at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, FL, Dr Brotherton finished his orthopedic residency training in upstate New York at Albany Medical Center with a heavy focus on trauma and arthroplasty.

After completing his residency training Dr. Brotherton served in the United States Air Force, ultimately earning the rank of Major. In his first assignment, he was assigned to Osan Air Force Base in South Korea where he served as the sole orthopedic surgeon for over 10,000 active duty airmen and dependents. For his excellent service overseas he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. Returning home to Florida he completed his military service at Eglin Air Force Base, where he continued to provide orthopedic care for this large training and special operations facility.

Upon completion of his military service Dr. Brotherton continued to refine his surgical skill and operative technique while completing a sports medicine fellowship at The Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, FL with the renowned Dr. James Andrews. There he focused on the care of athletes as well as arthroscopic and regenerative procedures, the application of stem cell and other biologic therapies, and expanding his base of knowledge in the diagnosis and management of upper and lower extremity pathology. In addition to obtaining superior surgical training, Dr. Brotherton received extensive 'on-the-field' training and provided coverage to athletic teams at multiple levels, including Minor League Baseball (Pensacola Blue Wahoos), Division I & Division II College Football and Athletics (Auburn University, Tuskegee University, University of West Florida), local high school football, and other sporting events.

While Dr. Brotherton enjoys providing care to athletes at all levels, he most enjoys participating at the high school and early college levels. It is here that he feels he can most make a difference in the lives of young athletes. He feels that the majority of overuse injuries can be prevented through directed education to these athletes, their parents and coaches. He also believes that many methods used to treat high level athletes can be adapted and applied to the general population and its growing number of aging, active individuals.

Dr. Brotherton is excited become part of the Orthopedic Specialists team in Palm Harbor. He is eager to build a busy orthopedic practice and apply the skills and techniques acquired throughout his military and sports fellowship training to all of his patients and continuing Orthopedic Specialists' mission to deliver outstanding and comprehensive orthopedic service in the area.
